Our History

As a young boy I grew up in an area called Alldays in the heart of the Bushveld. Being cattle farmers in the 70’s and early 80’s I developed a love for the meat industry. After in the military for many years I decided to return to my roots.

The dream of a butchery realized on the 10th of January 2017 when Akeru started trading in Gordon’s Bay.

Our Original Hampies Recipe

Growing up as cattle farmers, my father was a huge inspiration to me. His love for meat and his passion for the industry was highly infectious. Through trial and error he developed recipes for Homemade products that was highly sought after.

These recipes which we named “Hampies” – my father’s nickname, remained a secret for many years. It is now a privilege that we as the Akeru Team can use these recipes to supply top class homemade products to the community.

Part of a Family of Flavour

As a wellknown and respectable supplier of spices and equipment etc. Freddy Hirsch was involved in the early stages of planning and setting up the infrastructure for the butchery. Becoming friends with the Akeru team, they will continue to supply high quality products to the butchery.
